Did you know that...
... a rabbit's nose has 100 million olfactory cells?
In comparison to rabbits, our human nose has approximately twelve million olfactory receoptor cells. the rabbit picks up scent molecules by rhythmically raising the inner nasal folds. The method of sniffing the air is also called "nose twitching." If a rabbit stands up on his hind legs, he is better able to detect odorants floating around higher up in the air. Researchers have found that newborn rabbits, their eyes still closed, can find their mother's milk within 15 seconds of waking from sleep. The reflex for this is triggered by a special scent produced in the doe.
